(KOC-CNA July 19, Kaohsiung) Germany outlasted Switzerland in a tense World Games fistball match Sunday to earn a berth in the gold medal match against Brazil.In an encounter with frequent momentum shifts, the Germans finally prevailed in five sets, 11-7, 8-11, 11-3, 7-11, 11-6, to clinch a chance at a gold medal Monday while consigning a disappointed Switzerland to the bronze medal match.Brazil defeated Germany in the preliminary round 11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8 Saturday and heads into Monday's gold medal match the clear favorite.Brazil automatically clinched a spot in the gold medal game by finishing undefeated in the preliminary round of the six-team competition, which ended Sunday afternoon.Germany, Switzerland and Austria finished with identical 3-2 records in the preliminary round after Austria beat Germany 3-2 earlier Sunday.The Swiss and the Germans placed second and third, however, by virtue of a better sets for/sets against differential in the five qualifying round games, enabling them to face off for the spot opposite Brazil in the final.Despite rallying from two sets down to defeat Germany 7-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7 Sunday morning, Austria was unable to climb into the top three because of the tiebreaker system.The fourth-place finish pitted the defending world champion Austrians faced off against fifth-place Chile Sunday afternoon, with a bronze medal game berth at stake, and the Austrians brushed aside their South American opponents in straight sets, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9.Chile and Taiwan (Chinese Taipei), which went winless in the preliminary round, will vie for fifth place.Host Taiwan's futility in this tournament is understandable. World Games 2009 Taiwan
Como os pedidos tem sido muitos, aproveito uma brecha na programacao intensa aqui em Taiwan para dar uma comentada sobre o que acontece por aqui....:
Quanto aos WG propriamente, eles estao com uma organizacao fabulosa, tem voluntario pronto para ajudar em qualquer lugar que voce imaginar, e eles sempre solicitos com todos atletas e participantes..tem muita divulgacao por aqui, tem publico nos esportes, pelo menos temno punhobol.... e o pessoal esta torcendo, vibrando com cada jogada bonita...
Sobre o clima...isso aqui parece uma panela de pressao, de tao quente e umido que e. Deve fazer uns 34 graus normalmente, com sensacao termica de uns 40 ao meio dia. Hoje excepcionalmente baixou um pouco, pois entrou um tufao aqui pelas redondezas e ai, com muito vento, melhorou a sensacao.
Sobre os jogos... o clima ta bemlegal, tem uma arena montada num estadio, e colocaram arquibancadas nos fundos, e sempre tem bastante gente. Novamente as quatro selecoes principais num nivel melhor, depois vem Chile que quase fez o crime na Austria, e Taiwan que melhora a cada ano que passa seu nivel. O Brasil esta bastante solido na sua defesa, e com um ataque que esta desconcertando os adversarios, nao cometendo muitos erros. Ganhamos todos os jogos, e amanha temos que cumprir tabela e jogar com Chile para depois assistir as outras tres selecoes se degladiarem para garantir o outro lugar na final, pois o Brasil ja garantiu o seu. A medalha deprata ja e nossa!!! E vamos agora em busca do ouro. Alemanha, Austria e Suica estao embolados entre o segundo e o quarto colocado, e a semi final e entre o segundo e o terceiro. Amanha estaremos assistindo esses jogos decisivos para eles bem tranquilos, na sombra, o que faz uma tremenda diferenca nesse calor daqui.
Volto a ressaltar, dos anos que ja passei pela selecao, essa e a que esta mais solida, mais bem preparada para vencer um campeonato desse nivel.
Bom, agora e acompanhar pelos sites das selecoes, pois e dificil para colocar as novidades seguidamente. Mas vou tenar deixar todos a par do que acontece por aqui... espero que tenham aproveitado.... usem o mural d erecados..
